A Space for Fashion Design and Critical Thinking

About

The Critical Fashion Project refers to a strategic subject development project entitled Critical Fashion: Reflections in Theory and Practice and was funded by Beckmans College of Design as part of an investment in artistic research initiated in 2017. The aim of the project is to investigate what critical thinking means in the context of fashion design from both a theoretical and practical perspective. Put together as a digital anthology with texts as well as visuals, the project was realised during a time span of two years and is made public as a series of bi-weekly releases beginning in October 2020. For a more in-depth presentation of the project, see the introduction by Maria Ben Saad, who conducted the project in her capacity as lecturer in theoretical fashion subjects and director of Artistic and Contextual Studies at Beckmans College of Design. For new drops and updates, see also Critical Fashion Project on Instagram.

Acknowledgements

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all contributors in this project for their support, confidence and long-time commitment, especially the Beckmans alumni and young professionals who trusted me with their own life stories. I also wish to thank Konst & Teknik for their crucial engagement in all aspects of the publishing process as well as Beckmans College of Design for giving me the opportunity to do this project in the first place.

I hope it doesn’t end here.
